I’ve won an award!

I'm thrilled to have entered the 2022 Craft Beer Marketing Awards and won a prestigious Platinum Crushie.

In the category of Best Can Design - Best Beer Series, I entered my work with New Bristol Brewery where we follow Alfred's adventures on each can label. I'd like to say a huge thank you to Maria and Noel and all the guys at the brewery for the amazing journey we have been on; I'm looking forward to many more adventures together!

More about the award below:

"The Platinum Crushie is the CBMAs most prestigious nomination within a regional category. Only one, the highest achieved ranking from each category in each region, will receive Platinum.

To award a 2022 CBMAs Platinum Crushie, the judges panel will be seeking entries that demonstrate marketing and branding excellence, and exceed the defined category objectives by using strategy, creativity, and overall innovation."

I chose to submit images of three of my designs from the New Bristol Brewery series; What Time Is Love, Japanology and Twice Upon A Time. These are three of my personal favourites, but also they show a range of different scenes, and also show Alfred at a variety of scales.

What Time Is Love – I chose this design for its simplicity; Alfred is embracing a female gorilla… perhaps his lover, perhaps a sister, mother or daughter. I see her as his lover and he is saying a sad goodbye before he sets off on another adventure. I love the contrast of pink against blue and set against the backdrop of flamingos, the couple really stand out.

Japanology – With lots of detail; the challenge of rain and giving the image depth and atmosphere, this was one of my favourites to work on. I tried to give this design a richness, with the signs and lights contrasting with the dankness of the weather. I snuck in a few hidden details like the NBB logo and my own TM logo in neon as well (fans of Lost may also spot something cool!).

Twice Upon A Time – This remains my favourite design, even though I have done twenty or more since. This is Alfred at home in his cabin in the woods. From his vantage point, he reflects on the places he’s been and the many worlds he’s visited. His cabin is strewn with bits from his adventures including his spacesuit hanging on the washing line, the boat on the roof and the glowing orb and fireflies hanging in front of him. All details and items from other can designs that came before – little Easter Eggs for the fans of the Brewery and the cans.
